Waterman Agricultural and Natural Resources Laboratory dedicates ample space to agronomic & soil science plots. These plots are used for both research and student instruction. In collaboration with the Waterman team, students gain hands-on instruction by planting, maintaining, and harvesting crops at the facility and learning new tools and methods they can apply in their future careers. Research in agronomy & soil sciences advances our understanding of sustainable agriculture, efficiency, and more as we continue to find ways to increase food production for a growing population.
Some of the most notable research at Waterman pertaining to soil sciences is that of Dr. Rattan Lal, a world-renowned researcher and World Food Prize Winner. Lal has been completing research at Waterman for over 35 years with various projects - his signature areas being soil carbon sequestration, soil degradation, soil health and quality, and more. Lal is also a distinguished university professor of soil science and has held many professional positions throughout his career. Waterman is proud to be the home of such impactful research!
