Kunz-Brundige Franklin County Extension Building

Kunz Brunidge Main Entrance

Opened in 2019, the Kunz-Brundige Franklin County Extension building (KBFCEB) houses the Ohio State University Franklin County Extension team and offers teaching, meeting, and event space, including a teaching kitchen.

Kunz-Brundige was the first building constructed at Waterman Laboratory from CFAES’s master plan. There are multiple different aspects that encourage sustainability, such as working with natural space rather than against it. One concept, the vegetated roof, is a sustainable practice that helps provide insulation, filters rainwater, and aids the building in blending into its surroundings from an aerial view.

Extension is a vital part of CFAES’s missions of teaching, research, and extension. Program areas include: Urban Roots

  • 4-H: 4-H is a youth program that provides opportunities for children ages 5-18 to learn developmental skills through clubs, projects, services, and camps.
  • Agriculture and Natural Resources: Programs within ANR provide outreach and education for consumers and producers alike, focusing on enhancing and sustaining our environment and natural areas throughout the state while still promoting economic advancement and keeping agriculture a key resource in Ohio.
  • Community Development: Community Development focuses on enhancing the well-being of our communities and creating social, economic, and environmental conditions for communities to thrive. Programs like home buyer education, money management, student loan debt workshops, and Urban ROOTS all help educate and engage our community in improving the well-being of all members.
  • Family and Consumer Sciences: Family and Consumer Science Educators give people the knowledge, skills, and tools to make healthy lifestyle choices. Education in nutrition, food safety, managing finances, and balancing life are all different program areas FCS supports.
  • Master Gardeners: This volunteer program provides training in horticulture to Ohio Residents, who then help provide educational services to communities in all areas of gardening in conjunction with Ohio State Extension. The master gardeners care for a variety of gardens at Waterman and are an important program in extension.
